Fun-dRaisers 2011 and 2012

Lots of news....

To round up all that we did in 2011 in a couple of paragraphs, we sent a cheque for £90 to Hospice in the Weald which was raised on the Fun-dRaisers Good As New Jewellery stall at the Tonbridge Kite Festivals in 2010 and 2011.

We had two events in the Lamberts Yard Scout hut,  raising £50 for The Royal Brompton Childrens Cardiac Centre at a Good As New Clothes Sale. The second event held there was the Table Top Sale which raised £60 for Platform 51.

The Fun-dRaisers Ball in November held at the beautiful Salomons Centre just outside of Tunbridge Wells was a most successful event, with some really positive feedback, the raffle raised £70 each for both The Stroke Association and Tonbridge DisAbility Group

The cheques for these have all been sent this week, hopefully we will get some feedback and mentions from all involved.

So all in all something to be proud of, we raised money for all the charities named, we help local businesses and organisations, we provided people with the opportunity to make money for themselves, we created social events and people got to spend time with friends new and old.

It became apparent as the year went by that running Fun-dRaisers by committee was ineffective, so all the members of the committee where asked if they wished to commit to defined roles. There were no takers, so the net was cast further.
Diana Knight was asked and we are pleased to say accepted. I hope you will all join me in welcoming Diana on board Fun-dRaisers. xxxxx

So what's planned for 2012?

We will be raising money all year for three named charities rather than each event being for a specific charity. This means that every charity will receive the same amount, which seems like the fairest way.

A Spring Table Top Sale on Saturday 31st March at Lamberts Yard Scout Hut, 10-2pm. Tables are bookable   in advance and are a very reasonable £5. We are in negotiations with Tonbridge & Malling Council with regards to the cost of parking near to this venue and we will let you know what has been agreed as soon as we know.Fun-dRaisers will have their Good As New Jewellery Stall and for the first time a Fun-dRaisers Home Baked Stall. Entrance will be 50p. Refreshments available on the day.

A Pampering Night Out at St Johns Church, Hildenborough on 28th April between 7 -10pm. A relaxed evening with therapists  providing sample treatments, on offer are micro-dermabrasions and Indian head massage for a minimal cost.  Food and soft drinks available and the church have agreed that you can bring your own alcoholic drinks with you if you wish. Why not get a group of friends together and enjoy a relaxing treat or two. Tickets are available at £10 for 2 treatments /£15 for 3 treatments.
A very affordable amount to try out different treatments.

A Summer BBQ is planned - more details to follow as soon as confirmed.

Possible events of a Fun-dRaisers Band Night and Pub Quizzes are being looked into and then on December 1st we will be holding a Christmas Table Top Sale at the Lamberts Yard Scout Hut, Tonbridge.

Finally if you want to raise money for a specific charity and have an event in mind, its likely that we will be able to help.

Charity Ball 12th November 2011

The Charity Ball is the final Fun-dRaisers event planned for 2011. Its setting is the gorgeous Victorian Theatre of the Salomons Centre just outside of Tunbridge Wells. You might be interested to know that this is one of the first buildings in this area to have had electricity installed and many of the original fittings remain on show in the Theatre, so not only is it a grand setting it is of historical interest. There is a gallery around the top of the Theatre where people used to observe all kinds of experiments taking place down below.

The Fun-dRaisers Charity Ball does not include any experiments, but it definitely presents the opportunity to have some fun with friends old and new. This is a party in a fabulous setting and because of that there are no formal dress rules, just the chance to dress up in your finest

How about escaping from the current doom and gloom  and getting some friends together and joining us for a fun evening and help to raise some money for the Tonbridge disAbility Social Group and The Stroke Association.

Tickets are £20 for adults and if you would like to bring your children with you, they are welcome, their tickets are £10. Please contact Fun-dRaisers in advance on 07871 877 027 for tickets.

Your ticket includes a buffet meal, there is a licenced bar, a disco, plus a raffle with excellent prizes.

We look forward to seeing you .... xxxxx

BIG THANKS

to everyone that attended and took part in last Saturdays Fun-dRaisers Table Top Sale in the Lamberts Yard Scout Hut. There was a steady stream of customers right up until 2 O'clock and these people bought things, they stopped for tea and coffee and chatted and more than one person asked if we would be doing it again. The answer to that is a yes, it was definitely successful and that is something that we can certainly build on. Its excellent to arrange successful events and the more people get to hear about them the better. It was heart warming to hear people say that they had fun taking part.

We have raised some money to donate to Platform51, they are have told us that they are going to use this money to buy fruit for the children that use their creche.

It's great that people are starting to hear about Fun-dRaisers and the work that they are doing in our community. No matter how big or small your contribution is, it all helps so once again BIG THANKS to all involved for making the event a success.

What's to be gained by Fun-d Raising?

Altruism Helps
Fun-draisers are a Tonbridge based collective seeking to raise awareness of alturistic giving. Why?  Being altruistic is about reaching out to help others. What is good about this? By practicing altruism it is not only the person being helped that benefits but the person doing the helping also gains.

Fun-dRaisers help others by arranging events that are designed to create awareness of different charities and causes whilst raising valuable funds for them. Some of these causes are local, some national and some international.

Reaching out a hand to help someone is one of the greatest gifts that you can give. But the gift that you receive in return by giving back and helping others is both immense and priceless.
Come and join us at one of the events if you can, follow our blog, or organise your own events.

Empathy Helps

Every thought and action, this  includes acts of kindness, has a chemical impact upon your brain, and this with repetition will cause structural changes in your brain. Therefore it is not possible to be kind and not change your brain. This changeability of the brain is known as neuroplasticity, and it means that we are able to and can change our habits.

It Truly is Cool to be Kind
Acts of kindness stimulate increased amounts of what is known as the love hormone, oxytocin, in both the donor and the recipient. This then enables us to be more trusting and confident in relation to others. Our barriers come down and with this is the increased opportunity to make connections that ordinarily we might not make. One of the benefits of having oxytocin in our bloodstreams is that it is so good at reducing fear and anxiety, especially in relation to other people and their behavior, that it can even help us to change what could be a negative opinion about someone. Thereby turning what could be an enemy into a friend.  This increase in oxytocin brings with it the possibility of better quality relationships and an improvement to our mental and emotional health. All of this means you get the chance to develop stronger bonds with one another and this will hopefully lead to stronger communities. Go on give it a go!!!
