Charity Ball 12th November 2011

The Charity Ball is the final Fun-dRaisers event planned for 2011. Its setting is the gorgeous Victorian Theatre of the Salomons Centre just outside of Tunbridge Wells. You might be interested to know that this is one of the first buildings in this area to have had electricity installed and many of the original fittings remain on show in the Theatre, so not only is it a grand setting it is of historical interest. There is a gallery around the top of the Theatre where people used to observe all kinds of experiments taking place down below.

The Fun-dRaisers Charity Ball does not include any experiments, but it definitely presents the opportunity to have some fun with friends old and new. This is a party in a fabulous setting and because of that there are no formal dress rules, just the chance to dress up in your finest

How about escaping from the current doom and gloom  and getting some friends together and joining us for a fun evening and help to raise some money for the Tonbridge disAbility Social Group and The Stroke Association.

Tickets are £20 for adults and if you would like to bring your children with you, they are welcome, their tickets are £10. Please contact Fun-dRaisers in advance on 07871 877 027 for tickets.

Your ticket includes a buffet meal, there is a licenced bar, a disco, plus a raffle with excellent prizes.

We look forward to seeing you .... xxxxx

BIG THANKS

to everyone that attended and took part in last Saturdays Fun-dRaisers Table Top Sale in the Lamberts Yard Scout Hut. There was a steady stream of customers right up until 2 O'clock and these people bought things, they stopped for tea and coffee and chatted and more than one person asked if we would be doing it again. The answer to that is a yes, it was definitely successful and that is something that we can certainly build on. Its excellent to arrange successful events and the more people get to hear about them the better. It was heart warming to hear people say that they had fun taking part.

We have raised some money to donate to Platform51, they are have told us that they are going to use this money to buy fruit for the children that use their creche.

It's great that people are starting to hear about Fun-dRaisers and the work that they are doing in our community. No matter how big or small your contribution is, it all helps so once again BIG THANKS to all involved for making the event a success.

What's to be gained by Fun-d Raising?

Altruism Helps
Fun-draisers are a Tonbridge based collective seeking to raise awareness of alturistic giving. Why?  Being altruistic is about reaching out to help others. What is good about this? By practicing altruism it is not only the person being helped that benefits but the person doing the helping also gains.

Fun-dRaisers help others by arranging events that are designed to create awareness of different charities and causes whilst raising valuable funds for them. Some of these causes are local, some national and some international.

Reaching out a hand to help someone is one of the greatest gifts that you can give. But the gift that you receive in return by giving back and helping others is both immense and priceless.
Come and join us at one of the events if you can, follow our blog, or organise your own events.

Empathy Helps

Every thought and action, this  includes acts of kindness, has a chemical impact upon your brain, and this with repetition will cause structural changes in your brain. Therefore it is not possible to be kind and not change your brain. This changeability of the brain is known as neuroplasticity, and it means that we are able to and can change our habits.

It Truly is Cool to be Kind
Acts of kindness stimulate increased amounts of what is known as the love hormone, oxytocin, in both the donor and the recipient. This then enables us to be more trusting and confident in relation to others. Our barriers come down and with this is the increased opportunity to make connections that ordinarily we might not make. One of the benefits of having oxytocin in our bloodstreams is that it is so good at reducing fear and anxiety, especially in relation to other people and their behavior, that it can even help us to change what could be a negative opinion about someone. Thereby turning what could be an enemy into a friend.  This increase in oxytocin brings with it the possibility of better quality relationships and an improvement to our mental and emotional health. All of this means you get the chance to develop stronger bonds with one another and this will hopefully lead to stronger communities. Go on give it a go!!!

Fun-dRaisers Final 2011 events

Fun-dRaisers have two further events organised before the end of the year and we would like to make them both as successful as we can, to do this we need as many people as possible to know about them, so we are asking you to please, please, please pass on the details of these events.

Firstly, there is the Table Top Sale taking place on Saturday 29th October 2011 in the Scouts Hut, Lambert Yard, just off of Tonbridge High Street, TN9 1ER, in aid of Platform 51 (formally the YWCA). The doors open at 10.30am and entrance is 50p. There will be a variety of stallholders selling new, good as new and not so new products in the relative comfort of the Scout Hut. Refreshments and a raffle will be available to purchase on the day. Ladies from Platform 51 will be around to chat about their project, as will members of Fun-dRaisers, who are always happy to chat with you about ideas and charities for future events.

And then to celebrate a successful year of Fun-dRaising, our final event for 2011 will be the glittery Charity Ball on the evening of 12th November 2011, in the Victorian Theatre, to be found in the grounds of the picturesque David Salomons Estate, Broomhill Road, Tunbridge Wells, TN3 0TG.
A fun event catering for all ages, children are welcome to attend. You might like to come with your family or a group of your friends or a group of work colleagues. There are no formal dress rules, just the opportunity to dress up as much as you feel comfortable with. There is a licensed bar, great music, a dance floor, and raffles for the adults and lucky dips for the children. Your ticket includes a BBQ buffet meal. Tickets are available in advance, for the suggested donation of £20 Adults / £10 Children, in aid of the Stroke Association and Tonbridge disAbility Social Club. Please contact us now to book early and help us to make this evening a glittery fun filled success.

So far local businesses have indeed been generous and we have received donations for the raffles from amongst others, the Cindy Knight Clinic, Professional Pilates, Wacky Faces Face painters, Wayne Matthews Hairdressing, pamper hampers and family entrance tickets to Leeds Castle and Penshurst Place and we are continuing to seek out generous people to donate further prizes.

Please pass our details on to others, as they might have something that they would donate for a raffle or they might have a charity that they would like to raise some money and awareness for.

Fun-dRaisers are looking forward to these events and we would love to see you at them. Please contact us for further information and tickets on 07874 877027 or by emailing us at admin@fun-draisers.co.uk.
